Focus and Scope

EJC/REC is devoted to the study of communication theory, research, practice, and policy. Manuscripts reporting original research, methodologies relevant to the study of human communication, critical syntheses of research, and theoretical, philosophical, and pedagogical perspectives on communication are welcome.

Most issues of EJC/REC are organized around particular themes and are edited by one or more scholars with particular expertise in the domain of that theme. Authors seeking to submit a manuscript for consideration in a theme issue should consult the call for papers associated with that issue and submit papers in order to meet deadlines associated with a particular call. The call for papers is located at:  http://www.cios.org/www/ejccalls.htm

Authors may also submit manuscripts to EJC/REC for review without regard to a special issue.  Submissions are accepted on a continuous basis and those accepted for publication that are not part of a theme issue appear in a regular published issue of EJC.

In general, space is not a consideration in publication decisions, so there are no absolute page limits for submitted manuscripts. However, authors should note that, regardless of publication medium, brevity and simplicity continue to be important virtues in scholarly writing.

Peer Review Process

Whether considered within the context of a theme issue or considered independently, all manuscripts appearing  in EJC/REC receive double blind review.  that is, reviewers are blind to the identity of the author, and the author will not be informed about the identity of the reviewer (unless the reviewer has indicated that he or she would like to become known to the author).

Submissions are initially reviewed by the guest editor or managing editor to determine their suitability for publication consideration by EJC.  Following that, manuscripts under publication consideration are sent to 2 or 3 scholars in a related research area for blind review. All reviewers are asked to complete their work within 6-8  weeks of receipt of a manuscript.  Authors can generallyexpect to receive a decision about the outcome of the review process within 3 months  of submission.
